“This ballet does not recount the origins, the centuries of diaspora, the recent past and the present. It explores the feeling that has formed in our collective consciousness, a sediment left by the history of the Jews, which has always intermingled with other histories and cultures, as in a relentless process of osmosis without, however, altering the fundamentals of Jewish culture.
The continuous journeys, the incessant search and the idea of an aim in life contributes to define the image we have of this people. And this image is almost a metaphor of man’s existence.
The musical composition by Bruno Moretti is divided into four movements. It takes inspiration from different cultural worlds. It begins in a Latin setting, crosses the Balkans and Central European territories reaching the land of the origins, and concludes in a “generic” westernized world.
