Baby Gang
“Godani has an interesting aim, that is to “de-condition” the body from acquired techniques and styles inscribed in the dance memory in order to free imagination. Baby Gang – this is the significant title of his piece – seeks a virginity of approach towards movement, going beyond all that a dancer has learned as a “grown up”. (...) But, most of all, Godani has encouraged the dancers to regain the “infantile universe” - which has always fascinated him - considered not as an unmannered age, but simply as a pre-educated, “animal” age, in which movements are still “free” from the subsequent cultivation which induces one to forget and to deny. Jacopo Godani’s desire is clearly to work on pure dance material, on pure choreography, seeking new structures, and creating a link between his preceding ballet and the following. His aim is to refine, select, complicate forms used up to today, in order to obtain an original language, without borrowing narrations nor images beyond the “necessities” of his corporeal project.
