After having confronted, in his most recent creations for Aterballetto, the ancient and immortal refinement of Henry Purcell’s Songs, and the contemporary experimental field of composer-architect Iannis Xenakis in Pèrsephassa, Mauro Bigonzetti has now set out to explore, in Canzoni, the realm of contemporary pop and rock music, with its stimulating and compelling qualities, its relative carefreeness as regards cultural definitions and confinements; all the while experimental in its own right - if we may grant such an attribute to the musical journeys of David Byrne, Nick Cave, and others.
Over this stretch of music, in fluid and capturing motion, Mauro Bigonzetti’s choreographic idiom remains always perfectly recognizable. With Canzoni he continues an excursion into the history of music, while proceeding to explore and extend proof - in various manifestations - of the interpretative potential and versatility of Aterballetto’s dancers.
