Giuseppe Calanni was born in Castellammare di Stabia (Italy) in 1961. He studied at the Centro Danza Tersicore of A. Di Lecce, then specialised at the Academy "Princesse Grace" of Montecarlo, directed by Marika Besobrasova. In 1983 he participated in the first Specialisation Course at the "R. Valli" Theater of Reggio Emilia and immediately after joined Aterballetto, under the artistic direction of Amedeo Amodio. He danced in ballets of Amodio, Tetley, Tudor, Balanchine, Forsythe, Childs, Ailey, Kylian, and Béjard. As well as dancing in some of those ballets, he was also assistant choreographer. In this role,he re-staged several of Amodio’s ballets for the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro alla Scala and for the Opera in Rome. He also re-staged Mauro Bigonzetti’s Songs for the Ballet National de Marseille, directed by Roland Petit.
He continued working with Aterballetto under the new artistic direction of Mauro Bigonzetti, since 1997, as a dancer, repetiteur and assistant. Since September 2002 he has been maître de ballet and maître repetiteur.
