It is from this simple question that the journey has begun; a journey led by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto with the complicity and support of Accademia Perduta | Romagna Teatri and Reggio Children.
Many teachers crossed our path and showed us the way: we shared our question, our research with the children.

The challenge was to convey their eyes into a contemporary dance performance, which speaks above all through images and movements, and which before producing a real meaning arouses emotions and suggestions.
On stage there is a sculptor in front of the marble block: how to transform it? How much marble does he have to take away, so that beauty emerges? What type of beauty do we have to look for?

As if by magic, the questions and the thoughts of the sculptor turn into dancing bodies: the bodies of three fantastic creatures that, as it happens to each of us, express and feel the craving for showing off, the desire to feel beautiful, and the obligation to be considered in that way. Does our beauty, as human beings and dancers, really lie on the desire of perfection on pleasing others’ expectations?

Since their birth, children start building their relationship with the world through empathic and poetic processes that, if embraced, can turn into new points of view on the present.

The focus of the path that led to this artistic production was on the idea of a child able to have an intense and interactive dialogue with the dancers. This dialogue that took place through words, but also through body and graphic language, the manipulation of clay, paper and other materials. An interweaving of languages that stimulated reflections, ideas, metaphors and synesthesias about concepts such as truth, beauty, transformation.

The photographic and video documentation, realized during the process, allowed the team to redesign the experience with the children and to accept new creative ideas: rather than a performance for children, La stella nascosta is a performance with children. What we hope is that this high quality experience, which was transformed and staged by the poetics of the artists, could be a catalyst of beauty and optimism for other children and adults.
